Activities

Osprey on Lintrathen LochTop things to do without getting in a car:
  • Take a picnic to the Reekie Linn – quiet, shallow bathing pools with minnows to catch for the adventurous, followed by a short trek to overlook the magnificent 80 foot waterfall
  • Take one of the RSPB maps and spot some birds on the farm
  • Sit on the chaise-lounge upstairs in the Granary, or in the Cottage window seat and read a book
  • Cycle to the Wee Bear Café for a splendiferous cake and look out for an Osprey over the Loch of Lintrathen
  • Take the old drove-road to Alyth and stop at the Lands of Loyal Country House Hotel for a pint by the fire
  • Tractor-spot (if you are under 5)
  • Take a walk and see some of the animals on the farm
  • Cycle to the Alyth bike-track – an exciting off-road track
  • Go for a moon-lit walk along the lane across the road, and stargaze

Alyth Golf CourseTop places to visit in a car – in less than 10 minutes:
  • Climb Barry Hill (our cows’ winter home), and imagine yourself as a Pictish warrior looking over all of Strathmore from one of Scotland’s most dramatic iron-age forts
  • Retail therapy at Peel Farm Shop and Café – and spice it up by sampling the locally produced Bothy Gin
  • Try to spot a Golden Eagle at the Backwater Reservoir
  • Golf – two courses in Alyth
  • Take home a carry-out from the award-winning Alyth Fish and Chip Bar
  • Visit ‘The Barony’ in Alyth to try out the bouldering wall – and see if they can fix you up with a canoe or a bike for an adventure (guided or otherwise)

Glamis CastleTop places to visit in a car – in around 30 minutes:
  • Stroll around the Queen Mothers’ gardens at Glamis Castle, and maybe take the castle tour but don’t forget to sample the local produce in the café
  • Pretend you’re a pirate at the Peter Pan playpark in Kirriemuir – or if you can’t find your inner-kid, visit the adjoining camera-obscura
  • Explore one of the other Angus Glens – Prosen is Debbie’s favourite, Clova has a good pub and ranger station at the hub of a hill-walker’s paradise
  • Make sure you stop at the Wee House of Glenshee café, shop and visitor centre on the way to the Glenshee Ski Centre (en-route to Balmoral and Braemar)
  • Get active on trampolines and play equipment at Active Kids in Stanley (near Perth), and then replace lost energy at nearby Stewart Towers farm Ice Cream parlour
  • Explore the beautiful Dunkeld Cathedral, and don’t miss the National Trust shop, then dress-up as Mrs Tiggywinkle or Peter Rabbit at the Beatrix Potter experience in Birnam
